Spelling

Spelling mistakes are rather rare (most text editors have spell checking).

Spelling mistakes missed by spell checker

If the misspelling of a word is itself a word, a spell checker will not flag it as incorrect. I often see "ration" (misspelling of "ratio) and "filed" (misspelling of "field").

Mistake

The author uses "ration" or "filed" but the intended meaning is "ratio" and "field", respectively.

Remedy

Check your paper for "ration" and "filed" and correct to "ratio" and "field", respectively, if necessary.

	The utility ration was less than 1.
	The utility ratio was less than 1.

	The magnetic filed was strongest at the center of the magnet.
	The magnetic field was strongest at the center of the magnet.

Misspelled names

Names (people, companies, etc.) are usually not checked by proofreaders (see Proofreading).

Mistake

The author misspelled the name of a person or company.

Remedy

Carefully check all names.
